We’ve invited some of the most creative and successful national and international designers to speak about their processes and experiences at PICA 2011. We will continue adding speaker information so make sure to come back and check this page.

Laurie Rosenwald
Rosenwald’s first career is as an illustrator, author, artist, and designer with her work appearing in the The New Yorker, The New York Times, New York Magazine, plus others. Her workshop, How to Make Mistakes on Purpose, has been hosted by both North American and European schools such as RISD, MICA, Camberwell, Art Center College of Design, and by corporations including Starbucks, Google and as well as the GDC Alberta North Chapter in 2008.
Rosenwald’s second career is an emcee and comedian. She appeared as “Woman” in Season Five, Episode 1 of The Sopranos, and this May we’re proud to introduce as Conference Host in PICA 2011, Beyond: the un-convention.

Randy Hunt
Randy J. Hunt is the product and design director at Etsy, the world’s largest social commerce marketplace. He co-founded Supermarket, a curated design marketplace. Previously, he founded Citizen Scholar Inc. and worked at Milton Glaser Inc. and Number 17. Hunt writes and lectures about design, and has been a visiting designer at Parsons, Pratt, Mississippi State, Portland State, and the Hartford Art School. In 2009 he was named a New Visual Artist by Print. Hunt is a graduate of the University of Central Florida and received his MFA in design from the School of Visual Arts.

Blair Enns
Blair Enns is on a mission to change the way creative services are bought and sold the world over. Through his global consulting practice Enns works with principals and personnel of design firms, ad agencies, public relations practices and other creative businesses to help them transform from a high cost, pitch-based business development strategy to one where the firm commands the high ground in the relationship and shapes how its services are bought and sold.

Armin Vit
Born and raised in Mexico City, Armin is a graphic designer and writer now living in Austin, Texas. He is co-founder of UnderConsideration, a graphic design firm and publishing enterprise all rolled into one. While he has written for most of the well-known trade publications, he is better known for his writing on the blogs that make up the UnderConsideration online network, as well as from the books he has co-authored with his wife and partner, Bryony Gomez-Palacio — their most recent efforts being Graphic Design, Referenced and the self-published Flaunt. Armin spends a modest time on the road lecturing on any number of topics and can be found anywhere from San Diego to Berlin. Through UnderConsideration’s Department of Design he designs corporate identities, books and web sites for a few clients.

Jason McCann
Jason has an eclectic background that includes film, television, live events, dot coms, advertising and digital agencies, and even a brief stint as a professional juggler (no kidding.)
At TAXI since 2003, he has worked across all disciplines including design, advertising and digital. He helped build the agency’s interactive reputation with global award-winning campaigns for MINI Canada. He spent two years in TAXI’s New York office working on clients New York Life and Blue Shield of California, and most recently he was tasked with continuing to develop the people and processes for a robust interactive capacity as ECD, Digital for all six North American offices.
Currently, as co-ECD of TAXI Toronto, his role has expanded to involve all aspects of the brands he oversees, which include Heineken, TELUS, and the Toronto International Film Festival. He is a frequent speaker and panelist, is on the New Media executive board of Seneca College, and has been a judge at the D&AD, The One Show and Interactive Jury Chair for the Art Director’s Club of New York.

Ray Fenwick
Ray Fenwick is an artist, author and illustrator living and working in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
As an artist he has shown in Canada and the United States.
As an author he created perhaps the first “typographic comic”, Hall of Best Knowledge. The book made several “Best Graphic Novel” lists for 2008 and earned a nomination for “Best Avant-Garde Graphic Novel” from The Canadian Cartooning Awards. His most recent book is Mascots, which was published January 2011.
As an illustrator he has created lettering, illustration and repeat patterns for The New York Times, The Globe and Mail, Nike, O Magazine, Pentagram, Random House, Blue Q, Urban Outfitters, Nickolodeon, Chronicle Books and many others. He has spoken about his work at universities and conferences in both Canada and the United States.
